First Blog Post. Like Ever!

So, this is my first blog post, which is not my thing. Is it yours? More power to you. Rock on.

Who is B.L.L. Culinary Gardens? We’re a dedicated organic garden consulting and coaching company based in Northern New Jersey. My role is to support you every step of the way—whether it’s with design, sowing, growing, or harvesting your culinary garden. Not sure how to make the most of your fresh produce? I offer private chef lessons, creating delicious meals with what you grow. Pretty neat, right? I aim to make organic, functional, budget-friendly, and fully accessible gardens right at your home. Plus, you’ll get the hang of maintaining your garden so it thrives! No more plant casualties! Yay!

A little about me: I have a knack for growing organic produce, keeping two energetic nine-year-olds from taking over the house with their toy cars and Legos, and yes, I can even fold fitted bed sheets like a pro. Impressed yet? I’ve been a chef for twenty-five years and have been gardening for about thirteen years.

As a proud Jersey Girl born and raised in N.J., I grew up surrounded by family—my mom, dad, grandparents, great-grandmother, and sister—creating a lively household filled with guests, ladies getting their hair done in my grandmother’s beauty shop in the basement, and lots of friends and family popping by.

I developed my love for food in that vibrant home, particularly the joy of creating dishes. Everyone cooked there, and my grandmother’s soul food holds a very special place in my heart. She made my favorite birthday meal—smothered pork chops, rice, and collards—along with a homemade blueberry pie that was simply divine. My great-grandmother, affectionately known as Nana, baked Bisquick biscuits that could brighten any day. And let’s not forget my mom’s fantastic homemade sweet potato pies—add a dollop of Cool-Whip, which was pure magic! Those cherished memories of fantastic food and childhood experiences inspired me to attend culinary school.

My mom, Brenda L Love, was a remarkable woman and a true force of nature. She passed away from breast cancer in 2002, and I miss her dearly. She’s always with me in spirit. I named my company after her to honor her memory and keep her legacy alive. She worked tirelessly to help me pursue my culinary arts degree, and I’m eternally grateful for the love and support she gave our family, even during tough times.

I started the company to show that organic gardening is accessible to anyone willing to learn. Yes, there may be a few challenges along the way, but with my guidance, you’ll have a stunning culinary garden you can be proud of!
